Welcome To Sizwile School For The Deaf

Sizwile School for the Deaf is situated in Dobsonville, in the heart of Soweto, Gauteng, South Africa. It is founded in 1988. The School uses South African Sign Language (spoken) and English (written) as a language of Learning and Teaching. As our motto goes “Striving for Excellence”, we have dedicated teachers who go an extra mile when it comes to teaching and other developments for the benefit of the learner. The school has boarding facilities (throughout the term) to those children whose families live far from school. Most of the day scholars make use of the school transport. Sizwile is a no fee and quintile one school. It starts from grade R to 12 and has TOC and NID curriculum.

Principal's Note

As the Principal of Sizwile School for the Deaf, it is my pleasure to welcome you to our school website. Thank you for taking the time to visit.

Sizwile School for the Deaf is a great place to teach the Deaf child.  Our primary goal is to educate and develop the social wellbeing of our learners in order for them to be independent individuals. We believe that through our teachers’ commitment to a high quality of teaching and learning experience, the opportunities provided within our curricula and through extra-curricular activities, our learners will gain the necessary skills needed to thrive outside the schooling environment.

The good reputation the school has acquired and established over the years is due to the dedication and selfless commitment of teachers, class assistants, support staff and the governing body. We are a community that believes in working together. With these words, I would like to thank everyone for their continued commitment in providing excellent service in Deaf education.
